"It is the very bad hospital. My husband came last week with Urinary tract infection abdominal they forgot to do Urin culture two times. They are not professional at all . All doctors in the emergency room just want to finish and go home. I think they should quit and stay home if they don’t want to help people."

"I had a planned operation at AK Barmbek and the experience was much better than expected. I was very nervous beforehand but the staff helped to calm and reassure me before my operation and afterwards. I interacted with a lot of different nurses and care assistants throughout my stay and everyone was very helpful, kind and patient. Many of them spoke English to me (as my German is very basic) which made me feel more relaxed and informed. If someone couldn't speak English, we met in the middle with some Denglish and help from translators! I stayed in the PRIVITA Comfort Ward, which was nicer than many hotels I've stayed in! The staff regularly checked on me to see if I needed pain relief or any assistance. The bed was comfortable, the en-suite bathroom totally spotless and it was great having a private room. I liked that I could customise my meals and have so many options, especially for the lunch menu. There is a lounge area in the Comfort Ward with a good coffee machine, lots of tea and soft drinks (juices and smoothies) which was a nice perk. Lastly, I'd like to thank Dr Hayek and the team in the Trauma and reconstructive surgery department (especially the nurse who acted as the translator for us!). I had many appointments with them and never felt rushed. They took the time to answer my questions in full, reassured me and offered me a lot of care and attention. Hopefully I won't need any more surgeries in the future but my experience at AK Barmbek has set the bar VERY high!"

"We had our first son at the AK Barmbek and it was a very traumatic experience. While we are grateful that our son is born, we were completely left alone, no support for my wife during 6-8 hours and even with the Geburtsplan, not only they did not follow it and they even administered Opioid which we did not want and it was stated in the Geburtsplan. No one stayed with us in the room, no one provided assistance, options or even security. We tried to have the natural birth until my wife couldn’t hold any longer and we had to ask 4 TIMES for Kaiserschnitt to be made (they did not comply at all until the fourth time). This is completely the opposite from when we did the Anmeldung zur Geburt in which they stated that as soon as she said she wanted Kaiserschnitt she would have it “no questions asked”. We prepared thoroughly, but in the end, it didn’t amount to anything. Sadly, it was not a perfect day."

"Today, me and my German husband went to register for the labor and delivery of our baby (Geburtsanmeldung), and it turned out to be one of the most horrible experiences of my life. We had visited the AK Barmbek once before for an introduction evening about their birth services. At that time we were very impressed by the doctor and the team. They seemed very professional, and the environment felt good. We were given a birth plan to fill out, and we noted all of our wishes regarding standard procedures. We also left a few questions blank because we wanted to discuss them today with the doctor before making any decisions, such as whether to choose a natural birth or a C-section. The reason for this concern is that my pelvis is very small (I am only 162 cm tall), and during the last ultrasound, we found out that my baby is quite big and the head has not turned down yet. I simply wanted some advice or guidance from the doctor to ensure a good birthing experience. This was also a clear part of the birth plan we received from the hospital beforehand. However, the doctor we met today did not provide us with any guidance whatsoever regarding our questions. The only thing she told us was to go back and ask a midwife or gynecologist instead. When I mentioned the birth plan that the hospital had given us and asked what its purpose was if the doctor would not even look at it, she simply said they did not have time to read it and that she was working overtime today already. Moreover, she even told us that this hospital “might not be for us” and that we should reconsider. I have never been treated poorly by a doctor like this before. Especially in a hospital where every patient should receive proper service, empathy, and respect. To make matters worse, she tried to lecture me for only speaking English and having no friends, saying that I didn’t integrate well, even though I have just moved to this country. Avoid this hospital if you plan to give birth soon."

"My sister had a serious operation in this hospital 4 days ago. After the operation, she spent the first night in the intensive care unit. My sister was very satisfied with the treatment in that department and felt calm. After transferring to the public sector, everyone is still very kind and helpful. Very clean hospital, with professional and lovely staff. And also the atmosphere is beautiful."
