"My wife broke her arm in Coco, and after seeking and receiving excellent emergency care from Dr. Hanzel Larios in Coco, was transferred by ambulance to Hospital Metropolitano in San Jose for surgery. Upon arriving in San Jose, she was met by Dra. Zury Calvo as the admitting physician. Dra. Calvo provided outstanding care for my wife and was also very considerate to me as the spouse of the patient. She was kind, obviously highly competent, a very good communicator and provided a high level of professional care. Dra. Calvo was diligent in following up with my wife and me post surgery and in arranging transport back to Coco. Dra. Calvo even arranged for the return of a tablet that I inadvertently left in the waiting room in San Jose. All told, Dra. Calvo and other involved medical personnel in San Jose provided excellent care and both my wife and i highly recommend Dr. Calvo and Hospital Metropolitano."

"I recently went to the metropolitano because of some health problems my father was having, I was looking for a medical center with a fast and efficient process so metropolitano met all my expectations. The customer service is extremely helpful since the moment of admission to the end of the procedure, Indira the girl who helped us was really polite and kind with me and my father, when I had questions or doubts about the processes or when filling the forms, she was very attentive and diligent. It’s clear that the staff is educated and trained in the tasks they perform, I would continue choosing it as a trusted health center for me and my family."

"Awful Experience – Would Not Recommend: I had a terrible experience at Hospital Metropolitano after being transferred there from Manuel Antonio with a fractured ankle and fibula. Upon arrival, the staff were extremely serious and pressured me to immediately sign papers for surgery without giving me the opportunity to discuss my options. As I was in a foreign country, I was understandably anxious and requested to speak with the surgeon first. After consulting with a trusted orthopaedic surgeon in the UK, I was advised that it would be safer to fly home for surgery, where I would receive proper post-operative care. However, when I informed Dr Zury of my decision, she dismissed my concerns, told me I was wasting her time, and refused to sign a fit-to-fly form . She did however say she would sign a fit-to-fly 4 hours after the surgery and told me I could fly home the same day of surgery! She tried to assure me tht she had done this many times before and gave the example of fixing a broken nose recently and the person then flew home. I explained an ankle was quite different. Shockingly, she also denied me basic medical support—refusing to provide crutches, a boot, or even a splint to stabilise my leg so tht I could leave the hospital safely to seek assistance elsewhere. My father had to find a pharmacy where he could purchase crutches so I could move. She even tried to take back the temporary splint that was holding my leg together. All they seemed to care about was money. Despite only being there for about an hour and simply speaking with the doctor—without any lab work or actual treatment—I was charged $1,400 USD. Feeling unsafe and unsupported, I sought care elsewhere at Hospital CIMA, where the experience was completely different. The orthopaedic surgeon was kind, professional, and actually listened to me. He provided crutches, a boot, pain relief, and preventative DVT medication, ensuring I had everything I needed to fly home safely all at a cost of only $600 USD in comparison. He also gave me a fit-to-fly certificate on the condition that I sought immediate medical attention upon arrival. Back in the UK, my orthopaedic surgeon confirmed that having surgery abroad would have been a mistake, as my leg was too swollen and the stitches wouldn’t have held—meaning I would have needed the procedure redone. Thankfully, I am now back in the UK and scheduled for surgery this week under the proper care. I would not recommend Hospital Metropolitano or Dr Zury to anyone. Their lack of empathy, refusal to provide essential medical support, and clear prioritisation of money over patient care were completely unacceptable. If you require medical attention in San Jose, I strongly advise seeking care elsewhere."

"Highly recommend. I treated here several times, the degree of professionalism was high. Waiting room inertia was never over 10 minutes, whether it was day or night. I received the same level of care that I’ve received at any good facility in the US or South Korea, for a reasonable bill. Very satisfied."
