"At the beginning of September I had a total hip replacement (THR) at Hospital Nacional. Surgery was carried out at the time scheduled, and attention from personnel was superlative. Every day I was visited by not 1, but 2 nutritionists, who worked hard to please me by working around my very difficult dietary restrictions. Floor staff responded immediately and without complaint to my unending requests, always cheerful and willing to help. They exceeded my expectations in every category!"

"Very very slow payment and receipt processes. Waited on check in 20 minutes while they took our deposit and on check out over 1.5 hours. Other than that a very nice clean place, good rooms, good doctors, lovely staff. As others have said, pretty expensive. Food options for patients not great."

"It happened that my husband had to stay in this hospital due to radical prostatectomy, robot assisted laparoscopic operation. We have been told that this is the only hospital, that have this medical equipment Da Vinci surgical system to perform it. The Surgen and the operating team were very helpful, but the hospital care team could not communicate with us in English at all! So my husband was left in discomfort if I was not there to help, or I was failing in my translations, as I am not fluent is Spanish as well. The operation went well, the recovery room was nice and comfortable. The food was not very good and tap water was not drinkable, the bottled water was offered us on the second day. All went reasonably well till the check out time, when no one was aware of our departure time and could not give us any information about aftercare and help to get ready to get dressed and leave. My husband was in high discomfort and pain, he had a catheter and it was hard to fit him into his clothes. The biggest disappointment was at the check out table, where we where presented with additional HUGE bill for the hospitalization and additional fees we had no idea about as we already have paid one HUGE bill for operation! Naively believed this was it, as we never paid double bills before. All in all it is nice but very expensive hospital."

"I would not recommend this hospital at all, especially if you do not have insurance, particularly for baby deliveries. This experience took place during the second week of March 2026. While the obstetrician who performed the C-section was excellent and delivered a state-of-the-art surgery, the level of care declined significantly after the birth. The newborn experienced breathing complications that were, in my opinion, handled carelessly by the neonatologist, who did not immediately connect the baby to appropriate breathing support equipment. This resulted in an emergency transfer to Hospital del Niño. This situation raises serious concerns about the hospital’s neonatal care and the coordination of the team responsible for newborns. Additionally, the hospital’s policy of retaining patients until the full bill is paid—despite extremely high charges—felt excessive and lacked transparency. The financial process and communication were unclear, adding unnecessary stress during an already critical time. Overall, the combination of poor communication, questionable handling of a critical medical situation, and strict financial policies creates a concerning environment for both mother and child."

"Friendly staff, doctors, nurses, you name it. Everyone was super helpful with our needs and limited Spanish. While no hospital is perfect, this is one of the best run I've been to. If you need help, ask for Vilma."
