"KKH service has been extremely disappointing. Admission staff, the level of empathy and basic courtesy has been lacking. As parents, we are already physically and emotionally exhausted caring for a sick child. We are not asking to be treated like royalty — we are simply asking to be treated with kindness, patience and respect. Instead, when we try to explain our situation or ask for help, we are often cut off mid-sentence or spoken to in a dismissive manner. This only adds more stress and frustration to parents who are already going through a very difficult time. Healthcare is not just about medical treatment. Compassion, empathy and communication are just as important when dealing with patients and their families. It is deeply disappointing that when feedback is raised, the response often feels like the institution is quick to defend staff rather than acknowledge the experience of patients and their families. Perhaps it is time for all frontline staff — especially those at admissions — to undergo proper service training or Certified Service Professional courses to improve how they interact with parents and patients. A little empathy, patience and understanding can make a huge difference. Parents who come to the hospital are already worried and overwhelmed. The least we hope for is to be treated with respect, not dismissal. Very disappointed with the experience."

"I underwent an emergency cesarean section at KKH. The surgery went smoothly. Supported by the gentle comfort and professional skills of the medical staff, I safely gave birth to my baby daughter. I was admitted to the intensive care ward that night, where staff took meticulous care of my postpartum discharge. After moving to the general ward, most medical workers were warm and thoughtful. They helped feed and burp the baby, and patiently taught me breast massage methods to stimulate lactation. I soon mastered basic care skills. Most members of the medical team are professional, patient and kind, for which I am truly thankful. Nevertheless, a female medical staff member wearing glasses behaved harshly and coldly. Her actions repeatedly upset me, leaving me filled with guilt toward my baby afterwards. My husband tried feeding the baby for the first time. As new parents, he feared the baby might choke and nervously turned to medical staff for advice. Unexpectedly, she raised her voice and spoke in an impatient, blaming tone, repeatedly questioning whether we knew how to feed the baby and saying they would take charge instead. Without giving us a chance to explain, she took the baby straight to the nursery without a single word of explanation, and did not send the baby back for a long while. Much later, another staff member returned the baby. Seeing my husband looking flustered, I suppressed my discomfort and comforted him to relax. Later during a routine check-up, the newborn suddenly burst into tears. Newborns cry mostly out of hunger or physical discomfort, so I planned to soothe her first before cooperating with the check. She stopped me abruptly, telling me not to hold the baby in case it developed bad habits. I could not bear to ignore the fragile crying infant. I told her I once thought the same way before becoming a mother, yet all I wanted was to calm my uneasy baby. I comforted the baby and laid her back gently in the trolley. Yet she completely ignored my will and asked her colleague to push the baby to the nursery without my permission. The nursery was constantly filled with crying sounds. My baby had stayed there alone overnight due to my poor health condition. Though reluctant, I assumed it was only a temporary placement and the baby would come back right after the check, so I did not stop her immediately. What disappointed me deeply was that she left right after the examination. I waited alone anxiously and felt wronged. It was not until a kind medical worker asked if I wanted my baby back that tears welled up in my eyes. I nodded quickly, and my baby finally returned to my side. I cannot remember her name, staff ID or clear appearance, but her rude and unfeeling manner is deeply engraved in my mind. Every time I recall this experience, I blame myself bitterly for failing to protect my baby firmly and letting her be taken away. Even though she may have rich work experience, her lack of empathy and tough attitude are unacceptable. I still trust the medical services of KKH and sincerely appreciate all the caring medical staff. Night-shift workers comforted me constantly and shared happiness when my blood pressure returned stable. I hope I will never encounter such distressing incidents when giving birth to my second child. I wish all expectant mothers here could be treated gently. I remind myself and all mothers to follow inner feelings. Speak up bravely whenever feeling uncomfortable, and always protect ourselves and our lovely babies. Time has passed since these incidents. My baby was born prematurely but grows healthy and well now. Whenever I gaze at her pure and cute face, those unpleasant memories haunt me and bring back my remorse. I share my personal experience with other parents staying at KKH, and I believe relevant medical workers will also see these words. I have never filed any complaint about what happened. I only hope every mother and infant can receive considerate and humane care during their hospital stay."

"I am extremely disappointed with the service at the Diagnostic Department. The waiting time was excessively long. We waited for over an hour, and when our queue number was finally called, it was flashed briefly and we were directed to Room 17 under the radiologist, Katrina. As my mother is elderly and walks slowly, we took less than a minute to reach the room. However, we were told that we had missed our queue number and were instructed to wait outside, with the assurance that someone would call us. No one did. After waiting for some time with no follow-up, I had to return to the counter myself to explain our situation. Only then did the staff realise what had happened. This experience was frustrating and distressing, particularly for an elderly patient. The radiologist appeared rushed, which made the interaction feel dismissive and not aligned with patient-centred care. KKH is known for its standards of care, and this experience fell far below expectations. I strongly urge the department to review its queue management process, staff communication practices, and approach towards elderly patients, to ensure that similar incidents do not recur."

"Our 7-Year Journey: The Good & The Bad at KKH After 7 years and 3 miscarriages, we finally welcomed our miracle. Our journey had incredible highs and some difficult lows. The Heroes: Expertise & Care Dr. Liu Shu Ling (IVF): After years of "normal" results but no baby, Dr. Liu’s logical, step-by-step approach was a game-changer. She was patient with my wife’s past trauma and guided us through a successful IVF PGT-A journey. She is a true expert in recurrent miscarriage. Dr. Angelina Chua (Delivery): Recommended by Dr. Liu, she was amazing. The C-section was smooth, the stitches were incredibly neat, and the anesthesia team managed the pain perfectly. The Challenges: Areas for Improvement Ward 82 Recovery: Following a C-section under Full GA, my wife needed rest. However, we felt pressured and judged by staff regarding breastfeeding and formula use. More empathy is needed for mothers in heavy post-op recovery. Physiotherapy: We felt pushed into unnecessary treatments for "suspected" Torticollis. The approach felt forceful rather than supportive. Jaundice Management: We were discharged despite a rising jaundice trend, only to "bounce back" to the NNJ ward a day later. KKH should recalibrate this—starting phototherapy earlier for "high-normal" cases would save exhausted parents from the stress of readmission. Final Word, The NNJ Ward staff were a silver lining—comforting and straightforward during a tiring time. Ultimately, we give all the credit to Dr. Liu and Dr. Angelina for finally make our dream come true and we can bringing our baby home in January. Thank you, KKH, for the medical expertise that made us a family."

"We have been visiting KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for over two months now for my son’s wrist bone fracture, with multiple follow-up visits. I want to share how consistently positive our experience has been throughout this entire journey. From the very first visit to every subsequent appointment, the entire team at KK Hospital has made the process smooth and pleasant, even during what could have been a stressful time for our family. The receptionists are always friendly and efficient. They handle registration quickly, answer questions patiently, and ensure we never feel lost in the system despite the repeated visits. The nurses have been wonderful — gentle, caring, and highly professional. They make my son feel at ease during every check-up and cast change, explaining things clearly to both him and us. The doctors have been exceptional. They are thorough, knowledgeable, and genuinely concerned about my son’s recovery. They take time to explain the healing progress, answer all our questions, and adjust the treatment plan as needed, all while being approachable and reassuring. What impresses me most is that this high level of care and friendliness has remained consistent across every single visit for more than two months. The seamless coordination between departments and staff has made managing my son’s fracture treatment much less burdensome and far more positive than we expected. Thank you to the entire team at KK Hospital — receptionists, nurses, doctors, and all support staff — for turning a challenging medical situation into one where we always feel supported, respected, and well cared for. Your consistent excellence has made a real difference to our family. We are truly grateful and would highly recommend KK Hospital to any parent seeking quality paediatric orthopaedic care in a warm and helpful environment."
