"Dr Andrew Cheung was fantastic. So caring and had a wonderful bedside manner. The nurses in the day ward Iona, Leoni, Jarred, Stevie couldn't fault them. Thank you for making a horrible experience in the hospital, bareable. Hats off to you all."
"Very disappointing experience at the Emergency Care Unit. I brought my friend here and we had to wait nearly 10 hours. There appeared to be only one doctor handling many patients, including elderly patients who were also waiting for a long time. The nursing care was also not satisfactory. Even taking a blood sample seemed difficult, and it made the patient feel more uncomfortable. For an emergency department, the service was extremely slow and poorly managed.I understand hospitals can be busy, but emergency patients need quicker attention, better communication, and more experienced staff. This was a very stressful and frustrating experience.Only one doctor is available at the moment don’t know how they will run this hospital if a person comes with an emergency situation."
"Earlier this year, under the care of Dr Shannon Thiomas, Vascular Surgeon, my husband was admitted to Prince of Wales Public Hospital for a partial toe amputation. From the time we consulted with Shannon in his rooms at Bowral, until the surgery, we received the assistance of Gaye, who works with Shannon. A knowledgeable & helpful woman who excels at her work. From admission at the hospital until discharge, everything proceeded straightforwardly & smoothly. The nursing staff were caring, competent, friendly & diligent in their work. Dr Thomas visited the day after surgery & the Registrar visited every day until my husband's discharge. His surgery & care was exceptional. We followed up with Shannon & the surgical wound healed quickly & well. Thank you sincerely Shannon, Gaye & all the professional & friendly staff we encountered at the POW Public Hospital."
"I came to the hospital via ambulance with immense pain from kidney stones. Every interaction from the paramedics to the discharge nurse was great. All the teams I met during my 3 day stay at the hospital were friendly and caring and clear with all medicines and procedures. Shout outs to Jenny, Christy and Kat on the urinal ward and Amber in the ED. The team that did my stent operation and especially the first response ambulance team. I felt really looked after and was made to feel safe by all. Now I just want to stop urinating blood and get rid of the pain. ;-) but I cannot fault the team in any way at the Prince of Wales Hospital. They are amazing people and very good at their jobs."
"Nobody wants to visit the hospital but if you have to POW is pretty good. It is one of the biggest in Sydney and has every speciality covered. It is a huge place so check the map before you go for the closest entry point. There is adequate parking but, like all hospitals, it's expensive. The light rail stops outside on the High Street side. I've spent way too much of my life here. The ward nurses are great. The ED can be chaos and sometimes they are good, but sometimes I've been unlucky and had the dismissive Dr or the trainee that messed up. But overall it performs well. The new ED drop-off zone needs seating though. If you are unwell or disabled or elderly and you are waiting there for transport there's nowhere to sit down. There's plenty of seating at the other entry/exit points. The facilities are usually clean. A range of cafe and vending machine options for snacks but they are pricey. The best is the Gozleme tent that pops up outside a couple of times a week. The public outpatient department is not so great. Long waits way past appointment time, no guarantee you'll see the Dr you were referred to (sometimes it's one of their team instead). Private patients are treated better (I've been both so I've experienced the difference), but I think that's sadly true of most hospitals these days. It links to the RHW which is great, private consulting suites, pathology , imaging, and there's a breast screen clinic on the ground floor."
