Shouldice Hospital

"The Shouldice Hospital is absolutely the best place to get a hernia repair done in Canada. They have been at it for over 80 years and have their “shouldice technique” totally figured out. This is a private hospital which is a rarity in this Country but, if you are from Ontario the hernia repair is covered by OHIP and all you pay for is the semi private room and board costs. I believe you might pay more if you are coming from other provinces which many people do. The quality of service provided is second to none and I felt cared for and in the hands of absolute professionals the entire time I was there. My hernia repair was of the inguinal variety and I was up and out of bed the day of the procedure and moving around, exercising and climbing stairs the following day. I spent three days in the company of a bunch of other great folks getting their various hernias fixed, talking, sleeping, reading, playing pool and eating the clinic’s fine food. The experience was so pleasurable that I already miss the place."

"I’m home now after my inguinal hernia surgery. While parts of the hospital felt a little like stepping back in time with the dated furnishings, the overall experience was truly five-star. The doctors checked on us each morning after surgery, and even though the nurses were clearly very busy, they always took the time to care for our needs with kindness and professionalism. The rooms were small, but peaceful and quiet, which made resting much easier. There was also a large TV room and even a pool table room for patients to enjoy. But I saved the best for last — the food! Every meal, right down to the evening snack, was absolutely excellent. A sincere thank you to Shouldice Hospital for the very good care and treatment. I certainly hope I never need hernia surgery again, but if I ever do, I wouldn’t hesitate to come back."

The level of innovation, professionalism, and care here is truly exceptional. My surgeon was incredibly skilled, knowledgeable, and confident, which gave me complete peace of mind throughout the entire experience. The nurses were outstanding — compassionate, attentive, and genuinely caring every step of the way. Even the food exceeded expectations and was absolutely outstanding.
