"I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in late 2023. The standard OHIP ‘protocol’ embraced by most, if not all, Urologists and Doctors is Active Surveillance – basically a ‘watching and waiting’ until the Prostate Cancer gets worse and requires removal (The Stats: 1 in 8 Canadian Men with be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer over their lifetime, and 5000 men die in Canada from Prostate Cancer each year). I tried this ‘approach’ for awhile but I was uncomfortable with what I considered a ‘loaded gun’ growing in my prostate – with the chance of it spreading to other parts of my body. I did not consider those stats to be in my favour either, as I have personally known 2 men who have died from Prostate Cancer. I did not want to become a statistic. There had to be a better approach than Active Surveillance… A Doctor friend of mine first told me about Dr. Jack Barkin and HIFU (Hi Intensity Focused Ultrasound) at Urology Innovations Canada. I booked a consult with Dr. Barkin and liked what I heard. He told me that I was a good candidate for HIFU, so I went forward with it in July 2025 - a full ablation of my prostate to rid it off ALL cancer. Dr. Barkin and his team were fantastic. They treated me so well for the few hours that I was in for my HIFU procedure. The procedure itself was a no-brainer; the recovery was equally as easy. I’ve fully recovered. My first PSA taken 3 months after my HIFU was an excellent 0.81, down from a high of 12.8 when I was first diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. I’m CANCER FREE and I have ZERO side effects. My prostate works as good as it did before I had my procedure! Who could ask for more? My advice to anyone reading this – call Dr. Barkin TODAY for a consultation. And, if you’re a candidate for HIFU, get the procedure. You DON’T have to live with Prostate Cancer anymore!"
